There isn’t much
scientific info in the Internet about baby owls, so everyone was a
bit taken aback. The main theory is that baby owls have heavy heads
and can’t hold them up straight while they sleep. That’s why they
have to lie down!
Baby owls love
taking long naps this way and hate it when they are disturbed –
even to be fed! Studies show that owlets are big dreamers and their
sleeping REM activity is quite different from grown-up owls. This
means they do dream quite a lot!
What’s even more surprising, young owls can do their face-down nap even while sitting on a tree! These babies might be cute and weak, but nature has figured out a way for them to stay safe even when taking a nap.
