Rajasthan may be the largest state of the country but smaller states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Bengal make more political news. However, Rajasthan has been the at the centre political news for the past two weeks thanks to a rebellion by Sachin Pilot.Sachin Pilot now faces the prospect of being disqualified by Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi, who has moved the Supreme Court over being restrained by the Rajasthan High Court from disqualifying 19 Congress MLAs — including Pilot Sachin Pilot has maintained that his revolt is an expression of dissent against Ashok Gehlot and not directed at the Congress party per se. Pilot has said he continues to be a Congressman and has denied reports that he is joining the BJP.
This public posturing by Sachin Pilot could prove to be an intelligent route to take a step or two back. True that Sachin Pilot would find his standing considerably reduced. Making peace with Gehlot would mean that Sachin Pilot will have to sacrifice his chief ministerial ambition till the veteran Congress leader remains in contention.
