Public health contracts given on basis of identity politics leads to ‘national disaster’

NSW One Nation leader Mark Latham says handing out contracts to do with public health based on identity politics rather than merit as was the case with Melbourne’s hotel quarantine blunder, inevitably leads to a “national disaster”.

It was revealed over the weekend that the Victorian government hired the security firm at the centre of the hotel quarantine imbroglio under its social inclusion procurement policy.

The firm is believed to have been awarded the contract on the basis of aboriginality, with larger security firms such as Wilsons and United Security not even considered.

The untrained and inexperienced security guards were employed to guard Melbourne’s hotel quarantine facilities, which has been identified as the source of Victoria’s second wave already killing more than 180 people since July 15.

“Nothing beats merit,” Mr Latham told Sky News host Alan Jones.

“Nothing beats giving these contracts to organisations that are best qualified to get the job done.”
