The moment Joe Biden “bowed at the altar of identity politics” Kamala Harris became the predictable choice as his running mate for the November presidential election says Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“When I say predictable, this is a choice that has been widely tipped since that moment Biden bowed at the altar of identity politics and promised his running mate would be a woman and in particular a woman of colour,” Mr Kenny said.

Ms Harris is the first black woman to appear on a major presidential ticket in US history.

Mr Biden had faced pressure to select a woman of colour as his running mate at a time of racial and social tension in the country, while Ms Harris will be relied on to help drive the African-American vote for the Democratic Party.

Mr Kenny said the choice of Ms Harris holds importance as speculation over Mr Biden’s mental capacity continues.

“The point right now is that Biden is favoured by the polls to be the next president, in which case Harris would be the first female vice president, a woman of colour to boot”.
