Covid-19 has revealed the immeasurable extent of South Africa’s deep inequalities, and its divided schizophrenic character. The country aspires to be recognized as a world class, politically sophisticated, and socially caring society. However, the structural realities of our social and economic context make it difficult to hold that façade, revealing a polarised politics and political actors embroiled in bitter ideological contestations.
