Peter Dutton has criticised Annastacia Palaszczuk for “playing politics” following “preposterous” comments she made suggesting her state’s hospitals were only for Queenslanders.

The Home Affairs Minister said while there was “rationality” to border closures between Victoria and New South Wales, there was no reason for hard borders anywhere else.

“There’s no argument for other border closures around the country and in particular, in Queensland,” Mr Dutton said.

“Queensland has the highest effective unemployment rate in the country – even higher than in Victoria – when we went into the coronavirus.

“People in Qld understand the closure of the borders is political.”
