South Australian Liberal backbencher Nicolle Flint’s announcement of her departure at the next election has been fuelled by what she sees as a culture of misogyny around politics with her accusations going to behaviour from the Left of politics, according to Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.

Liberal MP Nicolle Flint announced she’ll quit parliament and won’t contest the next federal election.

The Australian reported Ms Flint is devastated by rape allegations which have hung over parliament for the past fortnight and decided she no longer wants to be involved in federal politics.

She also endured vicious treatment from opponents during the 2019 campaign for her seat of Boothby.

“Flint outlined these in a parliamentary committee late last year, where she also accused Labor women Penny Wong and Tanya Plibersek of not doing enough to back her when she says she came under misogynistic attack during the 2019 election campaign from GetUp and others,” Mr Clennell said.

“Nicolle Flint not making any further comments yesterday but I was pointed to these and other examples of how she felt she was just being misogynistically attacked and the career just was not worth it.

“Ms Flint advised the Prime Minister of her decision Friday afternoon.”
