When the pandemic closed schools and daycare centers for millions of children in March, it transformed many working parents into teachers and caretakers virtually overnight. COVID-19 outbreaks wreaked havoc on nursing homes, senior centers, and hospital ICUs. During his presidential campaign, Joe Biden unveiled his plan for a massive Medicaid overhaul that addresses both child and elder care as well as support for family caregivers. The new administration is also planning to expand paid family leave policies. How will these changes affect families? Do they go too far or not far enough?

A panel of experts discussed the politics of care and the new policy changes planned by the Biden Administration on Tuesday, March 9. This event was in partnership with USC Center for the Changing Family.
