West Bengal Polls: Caste Politics Peaks, Mamata Banerjee’s Big Caste Gamble In TMC Manifesto

The Trinamool Congress is all set to finally release its manifesto today (March 17) after the event got postponed last week due to party supremo Mamata Banerjee’s injury in Nandigram.
While the TMC manifesto will stress on social sectors, sources have told India Today TV that Mamata Banerjee will make a major announcement to include four key caste groups under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.
Among them, Mahishyas, who form a substantial chunk of the population in the Purba Medinipur district, will be the most significant addition. Mamata is herself contesting the Nandigram seat from the district, which the community dominates.
