DMK chief M.K. Stalin had an early initiation into politics. At the age of 14, Stalin campaigned for the DMK in the 1967 Assembly polls. The victory for the DMK in 1967 was a watershed, marking end of Congress rule in Tamil Nadu. By age 20, Stalin was a member of the DMK’s influential general committee. Stalin was appointed local administration minister in the DMK government that came to power in 2006. In 2009, he was made deputy chief minister to his father, the clearest sign of him being the heir apparent in the DMK. THE WEEK caught up with the reformer to discuss the upcoming elections.
