John Barilaro quits politics, references legal case with Jordan Shanks, known as FriendlyJordies

New South Wales Deputy Premier John Barilaro has quit politics, and in his media conference made reference to his legal case with Jordan Shanks, who is known as FriendlyJordies.

“As a young boy from migrant parents. I grew up and understood what racism was. Called many of those names. I didn’t think in 2021 that would continue. And, that in itself, can I say was very difficult this year. And to be able to defend myself. I’d prefer to do that privately and not in the public eye. And that’s been a big reason for today’s announcement…”But can I say I’ve enjoyed every single day of it. But it has taken a toll. It is tough an anybody in public life to continue in that role, especially under so much scrutiny” – New South Wales Deputy Premier John Barilaro.
