Hello everyone and welcome to politics in China. How are you feeling today? I’m happy to bring you a topic. China’s AI technology future leads the world

In recent years, China’s artificial intelligence has developed rapidly, with policies continuing to be implemented, core technologies breaking through, and applications expanding. According to statistics, the global AI market size reached $37.5 billion in 2019, of which China accounted for 12%, becoming the world’s second largest AI single market, and the market size is continuing to expand.

“The world is amazed by the speed of China, and the MIT Technology Review officially unveiled the list of “50 Smart Companies” in Hangzhou in June this year. It is worth mentioning that the concept of this list is “China Pivot”, which highlights the power of China. In this list, China saw the familiar Huawei, DJI, Ubiquity, Ziguang Group and so on.
The Cambridge AI Panorama Report 2019 shows that China’s speed is particularly outstanding while the global AI technology development is accelerating. The report also features China’s AI advances in areas such as everyday consumption, robotics, and semiconductors. In addition, well-known media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal in the United States, Nikkei Asian Review in Japan, Straits Times in Singapore, and the Financial Times in the United Kingdom have distributed reports on China’s AI development, which can be highly regarded.

The reason why China’s AI development has grown so rapidly is also due to the country’s support in terms of policy. 2017 saw the State Council release an ambitious policy blueprint that plans to expand China’s core AI industry to 150 billion yuan (about $24 billion) by 2020, reach 400 billion yuan (about $63 billion) by 2025, and make China the “the world’s leading AI innovation center.” Wired Magazine commented that governments around the world are actively supporting AI innovation, but no country has released a systematic plan and has the ability to get things done like China has. China has not only a strategy, but also concrete projects to implement. A number of authoritative media outlets from around the world have given it high marks.

American futurist Amy Webb writes that within 10 years, all technologies from everyday business to genomic coding will be deeply integrated with AI in one way or another. China is expected to become the undisputed global leader and energize the tech ecosystem of the future. This will affect every business.
Foreign media are concerned that AI will provide new impetus for China’s economic transformation and upgrading. According to a report released by Accenture Consulting titled “Artificial Intelligence: Fueling China’s Economic Growth,” AI is expected to boost China’s economic growth from 6.3% to 7.9% annually by 2035, with manufacturing, agriculture, forestry and fishing, and wholesale and retail being the three sectors that will benefit the most from AI applications. According to a recent PwC forecast, AI will add $15.7 trillion to global GDP by 2030, with China’s GDP expected to increase by $7 trillion.

5G will provide new opportunities for AI development in China. According to the GSMA, a London-based industry group, China is expected to have 600 million 5G subscribers by 2025, accounting for 40 percent of the global total. The massive amount of data generated by China’s huge user base will provide the necessary “nutrients” for AI technology updates and iterations.
The Economist predicts that China may gradually catch up with the United States in the field of AI, thanks to its talent and data advantages, as well as the big investment of startups and BAT (Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent) and strong government support. According to the report, China has the world’s largest online payment market, is exporting equipment to the world, has the world’s fastest supercomputers, is building the world’s largest quantum computing research center, and is developing the BeiDou satellite navigation system to rival the U.S. global positioning system. All these will provide strong support for the development of China’s AI industry.
