Politics in reorganised present-day Punjab is dominated by mainly three parties – Indian National Congress , Aam Aadmi Party and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).Nearly a month after his ‘humiliated’ exit as Punjab chief minister, Amarinder Singh, 79, announced that he will form his own political party that is likely to forge a pre-poll alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and splinter groups of the Shiromani Akali Dal for the coming 2022 assembly polls. Congress leader and MLA Charanjit Singh Channi on September 20 took oath as Chief Minister of Punjab and after few days Navjot Singh also resigns from the State Congress Chief Post. The recent political turmoil and the farmers’ agitation will impact voter preferences in the run-up to the Punjab assembly elections scheduled to be held in February-March 2022. The main contenders are likely to be the faction-ridden Congress party and the Aam Aadmi Party, predicts Acharya Salil. Lets see what future holds for Punjab in terms of Politics.
