Celebrated Russian film director Kirill Serebrennikov came out against the war in Ukraine, telling the Cannes Film Festival that culture had a role in ending the conflict. His film “Tchaikovsky’s Wife” is among 21 entries in the Cannes festival’s main competition vying for the Palme d’Or. Asked whether cinema and politics go together, Serebrennikov told FRANCE 24 that “cinema is politics”.
