Governor Greg Abbott called for the formation of special committees in the Texas House and Senate to address the tragedy in Uvalde. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick quickly assembled his Senate Committee, but it does not include senators from El Paso, Santa Fe, or Uvalde where recent mass shootings have happened.

Governor Abbott is focusing on hardening schools — telling the “Texas School Safety Center” to conduct in-person, unannounced, random intruder audits – to see how quickly strangers can enter a school without being stopped.

The police response to the Uvalde shooting has been highly criticized…and it’s now being scrutinized by the federal government through a Department of Justice review. But should, even more, be done?
