Inside Texas Politics: What will state lawmakers do in response to Uvalde?

Congress is considering a bipartisan bill right now. Senator John Cornyn is among those leading this effort. But what will state lawmakers do in response to Uvalde? For weeks we have invited elected state Republican leaders to come on Inside Texas Politics. None of them have accepted our invitation.

A new poll shows the gap is narrowing between Greg Abbott and Beto O’Rourke. There’s a five-point difference now. Last December it was 15-points. Quinnipiac University did this one after the Uvalde massacre – 1,200 registered voters were surveyed. But how seriously should the poll be taken? Is the governor’s race really tightening?

The Tarrant County Commissioners Court is majority Republican. And it just formally asked Governor Abbott to call a special session to address gun safety. Dallas County commissioners recently did the same thing. From Fort Worth, Tarrant County Commissioner Roy Charles Brooks discusses how he got his Republican colleagues on board with this resolution.
