Former Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson says ICAC has been a “disaster” and he thinks the greater issue of integrity is the “populism” of politicians telling people what they want to hear when it “can’t be delivered”.

“I don’t think at a federal level this will tackle the problem at all – I think the far greater issue of integrity is people being honest about the impact of their policies,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray.

“You’ve got far too much populism, which is essentially politicians and senators telling people what they want to hear.

“Promising they’ll deliver it when they don’t believe in it and they know it can’t be delivered. “
