Labor MP was approached to run for NSW state politics

Federal Labor MP Ed Husic was approached before the last New South Wales election to run, with the view towards becoming a future leader of state Labor.

“We’ve already seen reported the approach by former General Secretary of the party Kaila Murnain to Jason Clare while Luke Foley was leader,” Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell said.

“Murnain approached Husic as well.

“Husic seriously thought about it as he was not a massive wrap for the style of then leader Bill Shorten, but he decided he did not want to displace Edmond Atalla in his seat of Mount Druitt.

“Labor is in such a weak position in New South Wales parliament that they continue to look for answers elsewhere to take on Gladys Berejiklian at the next state election.”
