LIVE: United States politics updates

Democrats are poised to take control of the United States Senate after a special run-off election was called for Reverend Raphael Warnock – a Baptist minister who makes history as Georgia’s first black senator.
Fellow Democrat Jon Ossoff is leading in his race against the Republican incumbent David Perdue with 98% of the results reporting.
A win for Ossoff – who has already declared victory – would give Democrats a 50-50 share of the seats in the upper house with the incoming U.S.
Vice President Kamala Harris providing a tie-breaker vote.
These were the two democratic nominees reacting to their big nights in Georgia. Meanwhile, supporters of outgoing US President Donald Trump gathered in Washington for a protest rally ahead of a joint session of Congress that will certify Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
The proceedings are usually brief but this year some Republicans plans to raise objections in support of Trump’s baseless claims that the election was rigged. For more on this and other political developments in the United States let’s speak to our Correspondents Sherwin Bryce-Pease who is in New York and Nick Harper is in Washington D.C
