Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte announced on Saturday that he will retire from politics and dropped his plans to run for vice president in next year’s elections when his current presidential term ends. Speaking to reporters, Duterte said that many Filipinos have expressed their opposition to his vice-presidential bid in surveys and online forums. “The overwhelming sentiment of the Filipino people is that I’m not qualified, and that it would be a violation of the constitution,” Duterte conceded.
