The Impact of Domestic Politics on the US-TW-PRC Relationship

In October 2022, Chinese President Xi Jinping secured an unprecedented third term in power and appointed close confidantes to key Chinese Communist Party and government positions. In early November, the United States held its midterm elections that resulted in Republican control of the House and Democratic control of the Senate. In late November, Taiwan will also hold its local elections. Given these domestic dynamics, the future of the relationship between the United States, Taiwan, and the PRC remains uncertain. What lies ahead? What impact will these elections have?
